I sent a long, sad note to my counselor that was basically, "WHY ARE FUNDIES LIKE THIS??"

Let's talk about fundamentalist leaders for a sec. (CW: sex abuse)
Paul Pressler and Paige Patterson led the fundamentalist takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention.

These assholes developed and promoted certain views of sexual, marital, & gender ethics for ONE MAIN REASON, & that was **themselves**.
In promoting this, they could cover up their crimes. They could make themselves look too holy for anyone to believe their victims.

They could cultivate a pool of victims that fresh meat could easily be plucked from. They could even be seen as more powerful or desirable.
Regardless of WHY they did it, they were liars, deceivers, & predators.
NOT spiritual or Christian leaders.

Sexual, marital, & gender ethics HAVE to be informed by science, consent, and a deep commitment to loving one's partner & family.
The fundamentalist assholes have formed a system based on control, & rigid adherence to rules THEY developed.

I now have a theory:
Demonization of LGBTQ ppl, or any form of sexuality *besides* the fundy-approved, seem to be there to turn attention away from the Great Leader's crimes.
It's all a fraud.

Even the spectre of, "We don't want These People™ around because they might sexually abuse kids!" has been shown again & again to be a red herring:
The Fundy Leader was the sexual abuser.
Not the gay couple, the transgender woman, or the ppl into BDSM.

It's easier to ostracize people based on a difference that's easier to observe, than to face the deep, painful truth: the leader has been lying.
