I've heard racist comments blaming Chinese people for reportedly not having optimal hygiene or food safety regulation. Here's the thing: It's government and media's responsibility to promote those things. If Americans were not bombarded by peer pressure advertising and

if the US did not lead in food safety regulations, Americans would likely also live in a less sanitary way and eat unregulated foods.

And as far as backwards practices like wild animal markets in China go, in America we literally elected a first family that advocates poaching from being anti-science, so our own culture also has backwards elements and people who are behind on picking up more modern ideas.
