Our new report estimates that states are facing revenue shortfalls that could top $500B - mostly concentrated in a single fiscal year (the next). The feds can and must do more to help states close these shortfalls. If they don't, states will make deep, harmful budget cuts. 1/4

These cuts will prolong and worsen the recession. But even more importantly, they will wreak absolute havoc on the lives and livelihoods of millions of families across the country. Communities will be less vibrant. 2/4

And due to current inequities and longstanding patterns of racism and discrimination, the families who stand to be harmed the most by these cuts are those in communities of color and low-income communities. 3/4
