If we ever do adapt the series, I'd want to tell the story in a new way. So your favourite scenes and characters might not make it in. Entire plot lines will vanish. Books may even be squished together.

My aim will be to make any screen adaptation exist on its own, without any backup from the books — and that may require quite big changes. I think the important thing is that the characters stay true to who they are, and their journeys reflect the growth we've seen in the books.

So I'll be doing my best to make the screen adaptation as funny, as cool, as exciting, and as traumatic as I possibly can — but you, as the reader, will not necessarily know what to expect when you watch it.

This is my chance to shock you all over again.
