This post went up on Friday afternoon and we’ve had to pull it down because we were overwhelmed with *hundreds* of applications within the first 24 hours and almost a thousand by Monday!
Here are a few tips for applicants next time: https://twitter.com/AngeBassa/status/1248955603105521664">https://twitter.com/AngeBassa...
Here are a few tips for applicants next time: https://twitter.com/AngeBassa/status/1248955603105521664">https://twitter.com/AngeBassa...
1. Figuring out my (personal!) email to send me an application is 𝑎 way to stand out from the pack, but not a good one and it definitely won’t help you.
2. Asking for a 15-30 minute call to discuss the position is also not a good approach. Still, remember you are also interviewing with a company so make sure to ask important and useful questions once you make it through the application phase.
3. Sharing anecdotes in your cover letter about how you have experience solving the kinds of problems the job posting outlines is

You don’t have to have excelled at everything, though. Tell us how it went poorly, what you learned from it. Tell us about great outcomes too.

4. Being humble, passionate, earnest, and curious are great qualities. I don’t expect you’ll know all the things, so own up to the limits of your experience. Show us how you’ve stretched your boundaries over time. Then tell me something I didn’t know that shows me my own limits.
5. Reach farther than you think you can, credibly. Show us how you’ve taken on big challenges and learned from them. Show us how you approach problems and think through solving them.
6. Don’t lie! Seriously, I can’t believe I have to say this. You don’t have to and it’s really really bad. If you link to your github project and it’s a lightly edited fork from a famous master that you’re implying something about in your resume, it’s a bad bad look.
7. It’s a small community. If I think you have a great application but it’s just not a good fit for our specific needs, I’ll forward it to folks I know who are also looking. But if you send us a cookie cutter form, then it’s less likely it’ll make an impression.
We’re hugely honored and flattered by how many of you are excited for an opportunity to join our team.
And if you have job openings for data roles that you’d like me to signal boost to these fine folks, share them here and I’ll retweet
