The "changes sweeping education" (and uh, everything else) are due to pandemic--death and trauma! I am so tired of discussions about "what do we learn from this" that aren't fundamentally about the value of human life, and the need to strip profit from motivations in health care
Yes, some people are learning to do some things digitally that they used to do face to face. Yes, it's hard work, not the least because it's happening DURING A PANDEMIC. It's an emergency not an experiment.
Like, lots of people are also cooking at home because they can't leave their houses, it's not necessarily going to mean that they are 1) enjoying it or 2) going to continue doing that once they have other choices.
I see folks doing such good and important work trying to support people in this crisis, and I'm not upset about that. I am upset about the attempts to use this to predict some sort of edtech future. Please knock it off. Futurism isn't helpful in the best of times.
I would also like to see room be made for people to not do things that they cannot do right now. Support needs to be given to people who simply can't. Waving tools at people to insist they can might not be what they need right now.
