Problems that I think about often:
- 785 million people lack access to safe water
- 40+ million people are in modern slavery (10 million of those people being children)
- 130 million girls (aged between 6-17) are out of school (with a vast number, roughly half, situated in SSA)
At the moment, with the resources we have, the most effective way for us to help reduce the numbers is by supporting organisations that commit themselves (and provide transparency) to eradicating these problems. I'll outline a few below (if anyone knows others feel free to add)
Clean Water. @charitywater. What I particularly like about them is the fact their UI provides you an understanding of how your contribution is helping on the frontline provide access to safe water. @emmanuelayoola_ also has a charity called @GSAfrica_ that assists building wells
Modern Slavery. @A21 and @IJM. I'm grateful for their work and appreciate the newsletters they send; speaking of how they moved the needle forward on eradicating modern slavery. Their approach is holistic as they support the victims and use legal actions against the perpetrators.
Girls' education. @Camfed and @compassionuk. Camfed's model for change is powerful: educating girls (who are excluded from school) --> partnering with communities to unlock the leadership potential of these girls and young women --> systemic change. Simple, really.
Corporate kids with social agendas.
