Of deaths registered in Week 14, 3,475 mentioned “novel coronavirus (COVID-19)”, 21.2% of all deaths; compared with 539 (4.8% of deaths) in Week 13. 90.2% (3,716) of COVID-19 deaths occurred in hospital, with the remainder occurring in hospices, care homes and private homes.
The majority of COVID-19 deaths occurred in people aged 65 years and over. This is in line with data from other countries showing that the highest death rate is in older people.
