Kakuranger time gang let's fucking go! I'm ready for this experience. 53 episodes + a "movie" is kind of a test to see what I can do to get back into a binging spree again.

This is the 3rd 90s Sentai I intend to see all the way through (Jetman and Zyuranger are the other two)

Kakuranger 1-2:
It will take some time to get used to the Adam West Batman comic book text effects on the screen during fights but these are like 1-2 second flashes at best so

I do like the narrator I mean I don't know much about yokai y'all

Fucking loved the Kappa yokai

Kakuranger 3-4:
Jiraiya's introduction...you know what those first few minutes alone is just great with him in the cowboy outfit shooting at the others.

Nobody really is getting along well (ok kinda) but here comes Muteki Shogun gang as everybody gets their Giant Beast Fighters

Kakuranger 5-6:
One would think mazes lead to good luck. They do not

Another fun pair of yokai in Nurikabe and Mokumokuren and Kakuranger continues to look good so far.

See, Tsuruhime turned herself into a burger. Funniest shit I've seen.

Also think Bakeneko might be my favorite yokai design thus far, and no it's not because of trickery. That suit is damn good for real.

Kakuranger Movie:

Kakuranger 9-10:

It's just TV. C'mon Jiraiya. I swear Kaori (from Jetman) was a guest star in episode 9. That cage fight was great.

Ep10 is pretty creepy with Konakijiji wanting a family by stealing souls. That bit where Sasuke was dressed up as a baby had me laughin my ass off

Kakuranger 11-12:

I would like to keep my second hand clothes thank you very much. Seikai simpin

Tengu's plan is pretty dope with already dead yokai. Dr. Yugami, a human, will stick around for awhile.

Nitpick with the Beast General Fighters...they come from outta nowhere

Kakuranger 13-14:

Money truly does make the world go around. A BBW joke too? Nice

However, the next episode after this brings about even more change as Young Noble Junior, better known as the Yokai Prince, Gashadokuro comes into the scene. Dude dresses up like a punk rocker

Kakuranger 15-16:

Oh it's one of those 2 parters huh? Lemme tell you the 'isolate the team and attack em one by one' types of 2 parters are always strong ones tbh.

The Flowery Kunoichi Team will also stick around for a long while. I have no idea why they turn into cats tho ngl.

Kakuranger 17-18:

One of Saizou's ancestors pissed off a yokai for cutting off her arm. There's a great sunset fight near the end.

Look a child yokai! He friendly. Of course, Gashadokuro said screw that happy shit and turned him bad. There's also a sad sunset scene at the end.

Kakuranger 19-20:

Sorta kinda continuation from the last episode but also not. Junior literally escapes in a hot air balloon after fighting Sasuke.

Speaking of Sasuke, the episode after has him being hunted down by the Flowery Kunoichi Gang. Wait are they riding on a missile?

Kakuranger 21-22:

A little bit of monkey see, monkey do as a yokai copies all of the team's signature moves.

The next episode is an ad for solar cars by a genius inventor that Seikai ends up kinda simpin for. Maybe. And a whole fuckton of gas puns. Even the announcer gets this.

Kakuranger 23-24:

The end of the first half.
Gashadokuro succeeds in reviving his father, the Infernal King.

Tsubasamaru comes in. He forms Super Muteki Shogun.

The team has to split up in order to find the Shinobi Scrolls and master the Kakure Style to get Kakure Dai Shogun.

Kakuranger 25-26:

Sasuke's trial involves him becoming one with nature and protecting it. God Simidar is obtained.

Tsuruhime's trial involves her realizing that she really hasn't been as good of a leader and the rest of the team will die for her if needed. God Kark is obtained.

Kakuranger 27:

I'm not so sure how this was not one episode per each member but this works too as Seikai and Saizou to get their scroll deal with the Infernal King's emissary Nue and test their friendship after being turned into kappa. Both God Kumard and God Logan are obtained.

Kakuranger 28-29:

In an absolutely great two parter, Jiraiya has to come to terms with the fact that his former teacher, Gali has been turned into a servant of Nue and is forced to fight him. Jiraiya also gets assistance from Sasuke. God Gammer is obtained. The team is reunited.

Kakuranger 30-31:

It was too late. The Door of Seals is open. The tactician Hakumenrou (Tsuruhime's dad) comes and the Infernal King is freed. Kakuranger's mentor, Sandayuu also dies.

Kakure DaiShogun and Super Kakure DaiShogun are formed which kills both Gashadokuro & Yugami.

Kakuranger 32-33:

I don't understand. Why would you want ur face stolen? That's stupid. Nuppefuhofu reminds me of Koh from Avatar.

We don't get the Amanojaku from the Ghost Stories dub but this one will do nicely as well being a trickster and making people eat hypnotic shrooms.

Kakuranger 34-35:

Ur making sand from ur tits? I can see why PR didn't use this ep

A sorta kinda crossover with the final Toei Fushigi Comedy series Punishment Sailor Sisters Shushutorian as a make a child army plot is occuring.

That trio had a crossover with Ultraman also.

Kakuranger 36-37:

It's Ninjaman

He can transform into his true form Samuraiman if angered. He got banished for fucking up against the Infernal King, who wants him as a retainer.

The Infernal King also battles the Kakurangers in a mech fight for the 1st time on his birthday.

Kakuranger 38-39:

It doesn't matter that we just saw a turn people into yokai plot a few episodes ago this is for Ninjaman's isolationist feelings. How Jiraiya walked up stairs with skates on is a mystery.

The Announcer returns and gets a nice sendoff. Ep 39 is no a clip show

Kakuranger 40-41:

What is really cool is that you see the Kakurangers either train or start to gain their own apprentices. Very subtle growth right there that needs to be noticed

In the meantime there's also some revival type stuff but it's not dead monsters but that's ok.

Kakuranger 42-44:

A thrilling 3 parter that really tests the team. Remember the episode when the Infernal King celebrates his birthday? He gets to create a clone, Daradara to kill the 3 God Generals, Ninjaman, and the Kakurangers.

Also a lot of story progression here too. Nice.

Kakuranger 45:

I NEEDED TO ISOLATE THIS EPISODE INTO IT'S OWN TWEET. IT'S ONE INSANE CHRISTMAS EPISODE.

There's a whole ass city of Santa Clauses, the Kakurangers also disguise themselves as Santas. Hell, Sasuke even tries to kill a Santa to see if it was the yokai. WTH BRO?

Kakuranger 46-47:

This is the second time I've seen the make manga apart of the plan idea and it was pulled off well. Ninjaman also dissed manga. Big sad.

I wouldn't recommend a literal human firework show. As usual a child just can't catch a break when it comes to family dying

Kakuranger 48-49:

Do I really want to be a snowman? I'd say nope in this case because there's no CHILL to be had with this plan. Haha

I could've sworn there was at least a few other episodes with money loving yokai. Situation is new tho. Targeting the poor

Kakuranger 50-53 (Finale):

Well it's over. Despite his estranged siblings best efforts and other circumstances the Great Demon King was unable to defeat the Kakurangers.

To counter his attacks the Kakurangers must again use the Door of Seals to defeat the Demon King for good

Kakuranger to me embodies what Sentai can be as a whole. It can be silly, be dramatic, and be dark all the same.

I love this group of 5, I loved the yokai, I loved the mecha, and I adored the story it wanted to tell. Kakuranger is indeed to me one of the best seasons in Sentai

Pros/Nitpicks:
Making Tsuruhime the 1st female leader (although to counter that it feels like Sasuke was more of a leader...I don't mind that either)

The yokai (Gashadokuro is a fucking awesome villain, FINALLY A COMPETENT 5 GIRL EVIL TEAM, the Demon King is just 90s Satan Goth)

Pros/Nitpicks (cont.)
Both Kakure DaiShogun and Muteki Shogun are awesome mechs...and Tsubasamaru too. IT HELPS THAT THEY ACTUALLY TEACH THE TEAM INSTEAD OF BEING DICKS

The Battle Fighters probably were not needed tho

Jiraiya, Sasuke, & Tsuruhime are the real MVPs of the show

I do think that Seikai and Saizou had development but it wasn't as noticeable as the other 3.

Ninjaman is just a hotheaded dumbass who fits in with the group well. I like him.

None of the kid of the week plots annoyed for there really was no bad episode.

So fuck yeah Kakuranger is a 5/5 season. Go buy it if you still have money during quarantine OR stream it online in the U.S. legally
