None of new mechanical ventilators developed for treating coronavirus patients, whose production anxious ministers have encouraged, has yet obtained UK regulatory approval. Including the Dyson version + one developed by Formula 1 teams, BlueSky, which gov has abandoned.
Government thinks 18,000 ventilators needed in coming weeks (original target was 30,000). NHS total now just over 10,000, up from just over 8,000 mid-March. Government still claims it will have enough capacity.
