I'm probably too old to give shout-outs but it's time for #twitterbooklaunch, celebrating the brilliant books published this week and the authors who may have lost out on events. Rather than an unwieldy weekly thread, there'll be a few books each day. Let the shout-outing begin-
I wish I were a faster reader, but I tore through 'Exciting Times' by @NaoiseDolan, a sharp, smart, witty modern love story about expats in Hong Kong. 'Droll, shrewd and unafraid' says, um, Hilary Mantel but I loved it too. Here's a review - @wnbooks https://www.independent.ie/entertainment/dazzling-debut-offers-a-rare-treat-in-times-of-isolation-39117620.html
- and there's also great acclaim for 'How Much of These Hills is Gold' (another great title) by @cpamzhang, a bold, epic take on the western. 'Dazzling', 'Remarkable', a 'truly gifted writer' says, um, Sebastian Barry. A review from @Bidisha_online - https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/mar/29/how-much-of-these-hills-is-gold-c-pam-zhang-review
'The Flatshare' by @OLearyBeth was a huge hit last year and now comes The Switch, another smart contemporary love story. 'So charming, so sweet and so lovely' says @MarianKeyes, who knows about these things. https://www.quercusbooks.co.uk/titles/beth-oleary/the-switch/9781787475014/
And happy pbk publication to @niven_govinden for 'This Brutal House', his vivid, poetic account of the New York vogue ball scene. Shortlisted for the #GordonBurnPrize, you can read more about it here - https://www.theskinny.co.uk/books/features/niven-govinden-on-this-brutal-house
And happy pbk publication to @JDawsonwriter for 'The Language of Birds', a hypnotic, thought-provoking novel inspired by the Lucan case, but from the nanny's point of view. Read the great responses here - https://www.hodder.co.uk/titles/jill-dawson-2/the-language-of-birds/9781473654525/
'Gabriella', the fifth novel from @caraghbell, author of the 'Follow Your Heart' series, is about a young girl's determination to achieve the American Dream, set in the world of New York fashion. It's published by @PoolbegBooks and you can find it here - https://www.hodder.co.uk/titles/jill-dawson-2/the-language-of-birds/9781473654525/
