This is a thread on WHAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO TO FIGHT COVID-19 IN NIGERIA.

He who has hears let him hear.

1. Restrict flight from high risk areas. The more the volume from high risk areas, the more the trouble. The earlier this is put in place, the better.

2. Quarantine returnees (mainly Nigerians) from high risk areas. Self-isolation of returnees won't work here. Contact tracing is also difficult. The cost of quarantine will be less than trying to combat COVID-19. From the aircraft to quarantine centres irrespective of your status

3. If you failed in the first two approaches, you land where Nigeria is at the moment. The next thing is to stop inter-state travels through land, air or 'sea' (for South-south).
This has to be ENFORCED. Stay where you are. The elites wont listen but government should enforce it.

4. After stopping interstate travels, stop movement from or into the major cities in each state. This has to be strategic. Identify the major cities in each state (10-20) and ensure no inter-city travels. The reason is because some cities in Nigeria are as big as states.

5. Once you paralyze HUMAN movement, Government has to FACILITATE movement of food and essentials, across States and cities. Invite the think tanks to the table. Brainstorm on how to prevent scarcity of food and essentials. Each state will have its own peculiarities

6. Stop ALL public gatherings. In Nigeria, sit down with the religious leaders and carry them along. All pubs and any gathering beyond 10 should be stopped.

7. Social distancing is a MUST. What we are doing is a joke. People have not been well informed on the REASON for this.

8. Governors should provide fabric face masks. Every human being stepping out of his/her house must wear FABRIC face masks. People are resistant to change. So expect non-compliance. The solution is educate, educate and educate. After that ENFORCE it. Make it an offence

9. Empower the COVID response team. What we have presently is a political joke. Decentralize it. There is NO REASON why COVID teams should not be in EACH WARD. COVID is an emergency, don't playing politics with it. There should be no reason to ever call the team without response.

10. Ideally, the treatment centres should be in each local government. The more you decentralize the better and more efficient you become. It has to be equipped (check the TL on this). At the barest minimum, treatment centres should be in each senatorial district.

11. WHO is shouting TESTING, TESTING, TESTING. Upscale the testing. Decentralize testing, at least one in each senatorial district. Will power and FULL government support is all we need. Some developing nations are also doing it. Nigeria is presently NOT SERIOUS with testing

12. You will NEVER hear me talk about RELIEF PACKAGE. Presently, it is not FEASIBLE. People in government know the truth but they would rather play politics. If you had followed STEPS 1 to 11, allow people to go to work and earn their living. This is the stark reality
