Fuck it a guide/overview of nct for new nctzens because someone has to do it. This is gonna be coming from the perspective of an ot21 stan so I will include wayv because they’re a part of nct. Nct stands for Neo culture technology.

Please correct me on any information I get wrong I’m doing my best to present accurate information.

As of 2020 there are 21 members in nct, the oldest member is Taeil (25) and the youngest is jisung (18) There are four units in nct as of right now. Nct 127, wayv, being fixed units and nct dream originally having a graduation system where-

They graduate dream when they turn 20. Mark lee being a member of dream until the end of 2018 when he graduated. As of 4/14/20 sm announced that dream would no longer have this graduation system, that nct dream would now be a fixed rotating unit.

Meaning that the 7 members of nct dream will continue to be apart of nct dream but can now join other nct projects whether that means other units like 127, wayv, or nct u. We don’t know the details yet as to how this will effect other units.

Nct U is a fixed unit and always has been, having a different set of members in every song. So in 2018, the empathy era nct 2018 wayv did not exist yet to our knowledge. Nct was only 18 members at the time. The empathy album had all 18 members, and 3 different units on one album.

I always like to introduce people to the black on black dance practice first. This is the only choreography with all 18 members of nct 2018. (Remember they only had 18 members at this time not 21)

That can be somewhat intimidating seeing all 18 of them together but I usually like to suggest baby don’t stop next. This is a duet and it’s an nct u song with Taeyong and Ten. Taeyong being in 127 and Ten not having a fixed unit yet besides nct u.

Nct u began/ debuted with the 7th sense, and without u. This was the debut of Taeyong, Mark, Jaehyun, Doyoung, Ten, and Taeil. All of those member are in nct 127 but Ten.

Soon after nct u’s debut came 127’s debut when sm announced the second subunit of nct. Nct 127, 127 representing the longitude of Seoul, South Korea. Nct 127’s debut song being fire truck marking Yuta’s, Haechan’s, and Winwin’s debuts in nct 127. (Taeyong’s 127’s leader)

Nct dream the third unit of nct debuted with Chewing gum on August 25, 2016. Jisung the youngest was 14 at the time, and Mark the oldest was 17.

So far we have covered 14/21 members of nct and their debuts, hopefully this chart is starting to look less intimidating as you start to see how the units were formed, and how nct u is a bridge that connects them all. Also yes Mark is in all three units.

This table might help, it’s somewhat less intimidating than that diagram. Also it says mark graduated nct dream but like I explained up there Mark will be a member of nct dream again now that it’s a fixed rotating unit.

So we’ve covered the debut of each of these units. But on January 6th 2017 a new member debuted in nct 127. Johnny debuted with nct 127’s mini album limitless

Then on February 18th 2018 two more members debuted into nct u, Jungwoo, and Lucas, debuting with nct u’s boss. Soon after Jungwoo debuting with nct 127 in late 2018, and Lucas debuting with wayv in 2019.

I’m going to briefly cover wayv, I’m not going to get into why it’s called wayv and not nct China or something along those lines because you can look that up, and decide whether you’re an ot21 stan yourself but I personally believe wayv so here’s a bit about wayv.

Wayv is nct’s Chinese unit. They debuted on January 17th 2019 with a single album called “The vision.” Wayv meant the debut of Yangyang, Xiaojun, and Hendery the newest members of nct. Kun is the leader of wayv.

We do not currently know if Winwin is still a member of nct 127. He hasn’t promoted with them, sm has made no statement, we haven’t heard anything regarding Winwin or if he is still apart of nct 127.

So there’s a brief overview of every unit and member of nct here’s a list of song suggestions/ mv suggestions by each unit. I suggest watching compilations of nct 2018 moments or guides on YouTube that will help you get

Hopefully this chart makes sense to you now atleast somewhat and this second one is supposed to show who’s in what song but it’s very very confusing but I’ll still leave it here.

Stan nct, do it, it seems like a lot, it seems intimidating, but stanning nct was the best decision I could ever make. Let me know if you need any more help.
