I& #39;m feeling grouchy about how some folks are framing their choice to continue paying for services they& #39;re not currently able to use. Cleaning, haircuts, etc.

If you have a steady income and no fear of that changing anytime soon, and you& #39;re not suddenly responsible for supporting loved ones who& #39;ve lost jobs or other sources of income or might soon experience that, then great!
I& #39;m so glad you& #39;re continuing to pay others as a way of supporting them through the current difficulty.
And if you have a totally steady income and are just seeing this as a way to suddenly save a bunch of money you wouldn& #39;t actually miss, please reconsider.

Instead, do spend it to support the people you were spending it with before. *If indeed they want you to* - bear in mind that under current restrictions, you have to lose 100% of your income to qualify for CERB. If you lose "only" 90% you& #39;re in big trouble but can& #39;t get help.
A trickle of income, for some folks, might actually prevent them from getting the larger support they need. Yes, this is a shitty, shortsighted government decision. I hope they reconsider in light of the wave of protest from gig economy workers, but for now that& #39;s what we& #39;ve got.
So do check in before you just keep paying your people. You might not be helping.
And also: not everyone who uses services has financial security. A huge portion of our economy is based on gig work, short- or medium-term contracts ...

and other types of employment that are drastically affected right now, or that will be in the coming weeks and months depending on how this situation unfolds. People working in some areas of the service industry and some types of low-wage jobs are of course being hit hardest.
But they& #39;re not the only ones being hit. There& #39;s a lot of gradient between "no change at all" and "suddenly lost all my income." Short of asking people to disclose their financial situation, you simply can& #39;t know what decisions they& #39;re facing.
