Something dreadful happened in the NYC.

The data tell me:
>>> #COVID19 is almost exclusively an NYC area pandemic!

Let the rest of us out! But we do need to investigate what happened:

NYC + 7 counties surrounding it have as many deaths as the next 900 counties in the US.

1/
Details:
1047 of 3071 counties have registered at least 1 death

- 371 of those counties have registered just 1 death
- 465 noted 2 to 10 deaths
- 171 counties 11 to 100
- Just 33 counties have 100 to 500
- Only 5 counties have more than 500 deaths
- 2 counties w/ 1000+ deaths
2/
Those 5 highest:

- NYC: 7153
- Nassau, NY: 1030
- Wayne Co., MI: 745
- Westchester, NY: 562
- Suffolk, NY: 529

If you know even a little bit of New York City you would know that each of those 3 counties feed directly into NYC.

6 of the top 10 counties with the highest death toll are directly around NYC or across the Hudson in NJ. 2 other directly adjacent counties are in the top 15!

Those 7 counties + NYC have as many deaths (about 10K) as the next 900 counties on the list.

Honestly, I don't know why I haven't seen this before. The @nytimes publishes data on a county level and the results are astounding.

I have EVEN MORE crazy details in the weeds for tomorrow.

But there seems very few reasons to keep the rest of us locked up.
I think the problem lies somewhere here: https://twitter.com/tomselliott/status/1243539798008172551?s=20
