this'll probably be done throughout multiple days bc i don't think i can do it all in one sitting. also, there's gonna be a large range of fic types, tropes, and fandoms

1. a fic you love without knowing the source material:
From My Past To Your Future by imaginary-shadow
- vampire knight, zero/kaname
- only ever read vol.1 of vk
- I wasn't expecting to adore this fic as much as I do
- warnings: time travel au, unhealthy rs in past (be cautious)

2. a fic with a premise that shouldn't work but does:
Bouquet of Noses by nicowememoney
- bts, taegi
- absolutely ridiculous, see tag "complete and utter crack"
- but it's also hilarious and heartwarming so do yourself a favor and just read it

3. a fic you've reread several times:
The Notion of Falling by smokeshop
- SKAM (norway), evak
- i'm in love with this fic, i actually just reread it again a few days ago
- all types of relationships (romance, family, friends) are done so well it's beautiful

4. a fic you still remember many years later:
Building Bridges by Melethril
- Harry Potter, gen
- went back to my early fic days
- damn this is one of the first fics I ever read and loved, i found it in 2013-ish
- warnings: past (referenced) child abuse

5. a comfort fic
nothing about you is real by bapaldeul
- Wannaone, nielwink
- no idea why this was the 1st to come to mind bc it's mostly angst, see tag "slight fluff"
- what does this say about me
- i just get good feelings when i remember it, the main characters are so lovable

6. a cathartic fic (1/2)
Soft Hands, Fast Feet, Can't Lose by dolce_piccante
- 1D, larry
- one of the few 1D fics I still remember and like
- completely au, no connection to anything irl
- the climax of the story with the swan lake music is just stunning
- thorough warnings

- yes im cheating, get used to it im indecisive
- exo, luchen
- an arranged marriage fic, so much angst but it gets better
- resolution = cathartic

- bts, taekook
- there's no competition, this fic is beautiful, amazing, gorgeous, etc.
- so well written, i feel immersed in the world when reading
- so so so much angst

- bts, taekook
- personal fave taekook fic, read it 100's of times
- always have to listen to Prisoner by the weeknd (fic title) when reading
- im a sucker for actor au's

9. a fic you associate with a song (2/2)
We'll Meet Again (Some Sunny Day) by TangoDancer
- marvel, ironwinter, a fic series
- again title is from a song by vera lynn, and it fits perfectly with the fic which is set in ww2
- problematic bc it's gender bender

- I think it's abandoned :/ but the current end can serve as a final ending, just a real depressing one

10. a fic that inspires you
Hermione Granger's Hogwarts Crammer for Delinquents on the Run by waspabi
- harry potter, drarry
- i'm cheating but basically this inspired me to fall in love with this trope in hp fandom
- a harry never went to hogwarts fic
- great humor

11. a fic that brought you on board a new ship
the joinery by arbitrarily
- asoiaf, ned/cersei
- a rare but amazing pairing i discovered, at first i was like wtf but then I was like yes
- the formatting and structure of this fic is wonderful, and the language choices are perfect

12. a fic you wish could be a movie
Consuming Shadows by Child_OTKW
- harry potter, harrymort (tom riddle)
- one of my favorite hp fics ever, the tournament in this one is so fun and creative i would love to see live action scenes of it
- look at the tags, pretty good warnings

13. a fic that led to you making friends with the author
I never made friends, but there was an author on ffnet who's Percy Jackson fics led me to have long discussions with her through pm. however, she's since deleted all her fics.

14. free space, so I want to highlight:

- bts fic series, taekook
- adore this series, especially part 3: my enemy (my ally) which is set in the far future
- it's a reincarnation au inspired by tongari's 25 lives
- deserves so much more love

15. a fic you've gushed about irl:
you're the one that i want at the end of the day by hilourry
- 1D, larry
- genderbender, it's femslash so both are women
- soulmates au and abo au
- talked about it to a friend when i was talking about how lesbian fics are better than gay ones

16. a fic you associate with a place
House of Cards by sugamins
- bts, many ships
- idk what to put so, i thought of this as i have very clear memories of where i was when i read it
- any bts fan prob knows this fic, it's amazing, highly recommend
- look at tags and be careful

17. a fic that made you gasp out loud
One Sheep, Two Sheep by CHENstagram
- exo, chen-centric
- best horror genre fic i've ever read, so creepy
- i love love love it, definitely moments where you stop and just go like wtf
- even if you don't know exo, read it, it's that good

18. a fic you found at the right time
This is where it splits in half, honey, love or death (grab an end, pull hard and make a wish) by sechenitis
- exo, sechen
- zombie au, there aren't enough words to explain how amazing it is
- one of the first sechen/zombie fics i ever read +

+ and nothing has lived up to it (zombie wise, there are other great sechen fics)
- found it right when i was getting into the zombie apocalypse genre so that was great

19. a fic that you would read fic of
His Darkest Devotion by Lomonaaeren
- harry potter, hp/tom riddle
- a creative soulmates au
- i make up au's of this fic in my head all the time so it fits this perfectly
- if you like this pairing, you have to read this, i'm obsessed w/ it

20. a fic that made you laugh out loud (1/3)
Tinder Love by chenouttachen
- exo, baekchen
- i laughed so much reading this, all the characters are so funny, but baekyun is especially endearing and funny
- the relationship is so cute

21. a fic that made you laugh out loud (2/3)
my heart flutters from the sugar high by hoars
- bts, taegi
- this was the first taegi fic i ever read and boy was it a good introduction
- this fic is so so so funny and the boys assumptions about taegi are so cute
- highly recommend

22. a fic that made you laugh out loud (3/3)
15.30-Appointment: Kim Taehyung for Jeon Jeongguk (genital piercing)
- bts, taekook
- humor and laughing during sex is the best thing ever and is not nearly used enough in fic
- it's still sexy though,, just like funny sexy??

23. a fic with a line (or two) that you've memorized by heart (1/2)
strawberry fields by hoars
- bts, taegi
- one of my all time faves, it's funny and cute but still quite serious and grounded
- from rm's pov
- "my berry-bee", "any man who admits that is terrifying" my heart

24. a fic with a line (or two) that you've memorized by heart (2/2)
You're bleeding because you don't floss by Arualiaa
- harry potter, tomarry
- tom, in proper form, is a dentist and serial killer
- the title, and the repeated line, is amazing, perfectly sets the tone of the fic

25. a fic that gave you butterflies (1/2)
Scarlet by echaryn
- At the end of the road, taemin/woojin
- i adore this fic, it does a great job showcasing their personalities and love even though it's pwp
- they're so cute, i love them, i should read this webcomic a 3rd time

26. a fic that gave you butterflies (2/2)
Give Me Your Hands (I Will Pick the Stars for You) by mindheist
- bts, taekook
- this is just so beautiful, how much they love each other, jk coming to tae when he was captured, how can you not get butterflies
- historical fantasy au

27. a fic that embodies something you value in life (1/2)
turn my sorrow into treasured gold by cosmicocean
- star wars, padme/obi-wan
- set after ep.3 but padme doesn't die
- values: there are multiple loves & types of loves, family comes through love, learning to move on

28. a fic that embodies something you value in life (2/2)
trust your heart if the seas catch fire by maxx
- bts, taekook
- wow this was the 1st taekook fic i bookmarked on ao3
- tae goes to an alt. universe
- learning to see the value in yourself, felt his journey is relatable

29. a favorite au
Kisses Cursed by The_Fictionist
- harry potter, tomarry
- i've read this so many times
- i love fairytale au's and this is the best of them to me
- beauty in the beast inspired but it's so so so creative and different (!!!!!)
- seriously one of my fave fics ever

30. a fic you stayed up too late to finish reading
Wear Me Like A Locket Around Your Throat by VivyPotter
- harry potter, tomarry
- time travel au
- it's so long but i couldn't stop
- the slow burn, push-and-pull, between them is done so well, as realistic as this ship gets

omg i finished!!!! finally, thank god. that was super fun!! definitely not a total compilation of my favorite fics but a good amount of them. i hope at least someone finds something they like in this thread
