imma make a thread of all the scary shit I’ve been watching (and where to watch it) during quarantine since we all bored.
Insidious (Netflix)- it’s a well-known one and I honestly see why it’s considered a staple
Fractured (Netflix)- a good psychological thriller. it’s really a “wtf” type of movie
As Above So Below (Netflix)- honestly really good. if you’re into psychoanalyzing movies, this one is full of symbols. filmed POV, like the Blair Witch Project
In The Tall Grass (Netflix)- this is honestly a boring film but if you’re like me and want to just watch a bad movie to see why it’s bad. go for it.
Evil Dead (Netflix)- it’s the original 1981 one. a staple Ash ******** **** ******** ** ***
Delirium (Netflix)- a pretty good psychological thriller. very slow build up somewhat picks up at the end
Creep (Netflix)- if you liked “You” I feel like you’d like this movie
Creep 2 (Netflix)- better than the first Creep but you still have to watch the first Creep movie to understand
Devil Inside (Netflix)- it’s filmed documentary style. there’s lots of POV shots. this movie is actually scary.
The Last Exorcism (Netflix)- filmed POV as well. very good. you think you know what’s happening but in the end you’re wrong.
The Crazies (Amazon Prime)- it’s a good pandemic movie in my opinion. lots of gore and plenty of explosions
The Platform (Netflix)- really good movie with a deeper meaning. very gory. you HAVE to watch it in Spanish. don’t dub it.
Pan’s Labyrinth (Netflix)- a STAPLE by the Guillermo Del Toro himself! also in Spanish. you have no other choice though.
Marianne (Netflix)- this is a TV show. it’s only gonna take 8-9 hours to finish. it’s incorporates all the elements of fear. it’s in French. don’t watch the dub.
mother! (Amazon Prime)- a crazy ass psychological thriller that you’re not gonna understand until you break it down post-screening.
Extinction (Netflix)- a pretty mid sci-fi action type of movie. the plot twist throws you for a loop
Don’t F*ck With Cats (Netflix)- a 3-part docu-series investigating a murder. a lot of fucking plot twists and it’s lowkey editing like a horror movie.
Cult Killer (YouTube)- a sex cult documentary. includes some wild shit like actual suicide note footage. this is cult Joaquin Phoenix was born into as a child.
Jonestown PBS Documentary (YouTube)- really in depth about how Jim Jones was able to take advantage of these people in his cult. definitely one of the smartest cult leaders I’ve seen.
The Iceman Tapes (YouTube)- a documentary (3-in-1) about a man hired by the mafia to kill for them. if watch how he talks you can really tell how fucked up in the head he is.
The Prodigy (Amazon Prime)- one of the rare occasions I think I actually enjoyed a psych thriller ending. it’s about this lady’s son who starts to develop anger issues but it’s deep than that.
Midsommar (Amazon Prime)- it’s a cult movie. I enjoyed the special effects of all the death scenes, especially the Ättestupa
It Comes At Night (Netflix)- this was honestly so boring and confusing as fuck. you never find out what “it” is and why it comes at night. there’s no plot either.
Don’t Knock Twice (Netflix)- a good horror movie turned mystery. it’s about a girl who confronts the demon that took her childhood friend.
Cargo (Netflix)- just another zombie movie set during an apocalypse. it’s based in Australia. they don’t really give much backstory and have the main character a baby to add suspense. probably won’t watch again.
Mara (Netflix)- a different take on the concept of sleep paralysis. the plot was good but it was poorly executed.
Let Me In (Hulu)- definitely the cutest little horror movie I’ve ever scene. about a boy who meets the new girl who moves next door.
The Invitation (Netflix)- a very slow movie but the ending gives you the gratification of being right the whole time.
Child’s Play (Netflix)- this was honestly one of the horror staples that’s good, especially the effects towards the end
Return of The Living Dead (Amazon Prime)- this is another iconic film to the lines, the effects, the characters. it’s a staple for sure.
Phone Booth (Hulu)- it’s a wild ass thriller about a man on the phone. it teaches you to switch up routine.
Sinister (Netflix)- this is actually really good. the plot and everything. very much a pay attention to the background movie because you’ll see it before they make it known.
Sinister 2 (Netflix)- I actually did like this sequel. it gives you some of that real life scary shit. that trauma fear hits different.
We Need To Talk About Kevin (Hulu)- a psychological thriller filled with a lot of uncomfortable shots. you have to piece the story together on your own, and it comes together at the end. this is birth control in movie format.
Silence of The Lambs (Netflix)- a classic. if you haven’t watched it, you need to.
The Lazarus Effect (Amazon Prime)- a wild ass psychological thriller centered around the concept of “playing God” and the power of your mind
Tusk (Netflix)- y’all just don’t watch it. I know me saying this is gonna make you wanna watch it. this is literally the most awful production I’ve ever witnessed in my life. everyone involved in the making needs to go to jail. I want to sue for my time back.
Suspiria (Amazon Prime)- very interesting artsy horror movie, like Midsommar and Hereditary. it’s definitely something you’d want to watch again. it plays with other elements of gore than just blood and guts.
The Darkness (Netflix)- I didn’t like it. I felt like it demonizes children with autism. I don’t like that at all. also the plot moves too fast, and there’s no clear understanding of what is happening or why it’s happening. poorly put together. fire the writers.
Session 9 (Netflix)- it’s a good psychological thriller about asbestos cleaning out a psychiatric hospital. it encompasses every aspect of pysch thrillers but somehow executes it perfectly. very good movie and well made.
Candyman (Netflix)- it’s another horror movie staple. you have to watch it before Jordan Peele releases his version
Green Room (Netflix)- a very gory film about a punk band being terrorized by neo-nazis. it’s like a softer version of a Saw movie
The Ritual (Netflix)- it’s one of those “let’s take a shortcut through the woods” movie. it didn’t have enough character development for me. it’s boring and they threw in an “entity” to try to save they underdeveloped plot.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (Netflix)- a wild ass psychological thriller. it’s lowkey uncomfortable to watch. you don’t know why things are happening but you learn to accept it as the movie goes on. you don’t get answers but you get a resolution, if that makes sense.
Circle (Netflix)- it really tests your own personal morals. this movie is more of a drama with a psychological thriller as the underlying plot, if that makes sense. also, there’s no gore.
Terrifier (Netflix)- they should’ve left it as a short film and not touched it. it feels like you’re watching a parody horror movie, like a lost Scary Movie with no jokes. it’s just a corny slasher movie.
Splice (Netflix)- this is one of the wildest sci-fi horror movie I’ve seen. think “The Strange Thing About The Johnsons”. the wild turn this movie takes isn’t even as shocking as how it ends.
The Silence (Netflix)- it’s falls into the Birdbox and A Quiet Place movies. that’s it. that’s the whole plot. I did enjoy the Trojan horse stunt that was pulled, though.
Poltergeist (Netflix)- a staple. the plot twist really had me though.
The Gift (Netflix)- it’s a very slow build up. no real jump scares or anything. once they piece Simon’s story together, the plot twist throws you. it’s one of those movies where you expect the worse but the actual story is just as bad.
The Forest (Netflix)- even though the plot was giving me nothing and the movie was very whitewashed, those jump scares will really do a number on you. it had the potential to be great.
Trick (Hulu)- a very OD slasher movie with kind of a cult subplot. I find slasher movies funny, but they did come up with some creative ways to kill people.
Hell Fest (Hulu)- another good slasher movie. same concept as Trick almost. I enjoyed it.
Sleepy Hollow (Netflix)- this movie is so aesthetically pleasing. I love all the visuals in this movie.
House of 1000 Corpses (Hulu)- definitely one of my new favorites. the shots. the creative transitions. the comedic relief. the characters. all of it.
Devil’s Rejects: The Director’s Cut (Hulu)- I think this is one of the few times that I like the sequel more than original. I liked Rob Zombie’s take on the Manson family.
Dawn of the Dead (Hulu)- it’s a very 2000s movie when it comes to the constrast of characters. zombie movies are definitely my guilty pleasure, and the use of comedy in this one was my favorite.
The Lighthouse (Prime)- a great psychological thriller that makes you think at the end. I loved all the shots and symbolism.
Perfect Blue (YouTube)- a CRAZY ass psych thriller. it’s one of those movies that makes YOU feel crazy.
Alien (HBO Max)- a classic. I promise you that one scene that everyone talks about isn’t even the crazy scene.
Gantz: O (Netflix)- the style of this movie feels like you’re watching those story mode plot development clips in a video game, except you never get to play. the villian designs in this movie are top tier. the ending of this movie kind of confusing, if you don’t pay attention.
FearDotCom (Amazon Prime)- to me 2000s horror movies are always kind of... funny? it kind of trips you up when there’s actual stories (just not paranormal) of people dying after accessing parts of the dark web. that’s kind of the only “scary” aspect to this movie.
Ratched (Netflix)- this show is for people who think they like horror movies, but they just like shows with “dark” plot lines. it’s got a typical “free the murderer” plot line with the editing style of Series of Unfortunate Events.
The Last Horror Movie (YouTube)- if you liked Creep, you’d like this movie. if you liked the murder scenes in Sinister, you’d like this movie. it’s filmed like a home movie documentary which makes it more uncomfortable to watch.
The Possession (Amazon Prime)- based on a true story so it really adds to the flavor. it starts off slow, but once it picked up the pace it was really good. doesn’t have the typical demon effects like other movies with the full black eyes. the very last second is wild, too.
Better Watch Out (Amazon Prime)- it starts like a typical yt kid horror film but the plot twist is wildddd. it does include some s*xual assault scenes in the beginning before the actual horrors. it’s more suspenseful than scary and birth control in horror movie form.
Funny Games (YouTube)- this the remake of the original. definitely a wild psych thriller and by the time you realize what’s happening it’s already too late for them. it does have its slow moments. if you liked The Killing of the Sacred Deer, you’d like this movie.
Cube (Amazon Prime)- this is very much like a baby Saw movie. not as gory but essentially the same concept. it has the same editing style as Circle. it has the potential to be great but has a lot of plot holes.
