I’m supposed to study for a test but instead I made a thread of why #ProdigalSon is the best show and why it needs a season 2. @prodigalsonfox
So here’s the thing. Prodigal son is the first show in quite a while to capture my attention in a good way. Everywhere to look at: the Writing, the actors, the plot, the cinematography. It’s so well thought of in every aspect.
The writing of the show is mesmerising because there is no foil character. Every main or secondary character has some depth to them and has gotten some degree of character development in the show.
Like eve, at first I was like “oh, another dull love interest character.” (Im usually judgy to those characters because they are so dull in general) But then she turned out to be so much more and had depth and it wasn’t just another random love interest like any other show.
Which is what makes prodigal son so different
Or Ainsley, my first thought was “she looks cool but I doubt they’ll go into her storyline because she is the main character’s sister” since I’m used to shows not giving siblings actual personalities and are just there for the
plot. BUT prodigal son went full in and gave us such a complex character for Ainsley and I’m in love with her after episode 4. Also: there is no “good/bad” character. They all have some moral grey area, some more than others(the killers) since they do more bad than good yet they
still have depth. It amazes me how every episode there’s a little bit more to know about everything. Shows don’t do this much nowadays. Like Martin. @michaelsheen performance with his microexpressions changes during the scenes make the character so much creepier but
there’s so much depth to him we can’t fully hate martin.
Now let’s talk about the Actors: prodigal Son’s cast is just perfect. No other way to describe it. I don’t think anyone else could fit in the role as well as them. @justanactor explosive expressions that take the emotional scenes to a whole new level.
I can see the character’s multiple emotions in every scene and he just gets Malcolm, which makes the character feel real. @LouDPhillips takes the prize for Gil. He brings joy in his every scene and his acting is flawless. Definitely one of my favourite characters ever.
The writing of that character is good but, would not beThat good if it wasnt for Lou @KeikoAgena made Edrisa a Fan favourite that everyone loves.I dont think its possible to hate her.She hasnt gotten as much screen time as she should but in those scenes she got the fandoms heart
@FrankHartsTruly and @AuroraPerrineau make the character group dynamic whole and honestly she is so badass yet so understanding of Malcolm and cares. Frank as JT takes his scenes to a whole new level with his iconic one liners because he makes them so more awesome. Iconic.
And freaking @BellamyYoung ! Her iconic voice drops and the sarcastic quips during her scenes with Michael Sheen. Jessica is such a complex character not anyone could have played her right but Bellamy was perfect at it.
There’s not many shows I watch that ive seen such a perfect cast. Seriously whoever casted this show has my eternal gratefulness.

Now onto the plot: This show doesn’t try to confuse the viewers and make plot twists that don’t make sense just to say they will
make history with twists they never saw coming. This show sticks to what works and creates some of the best plot twists I’ve seen and they don’t feel forced or out of nowhere.
For example: Eve being connected to the Girl in the box. Was it obvious since episode 8? Yes. We saw it coming but the thing with this show is not the plot twists itself but the way they are delivered. Thats the magic of it.
Eve being the sister and actually looking for the truth instead of being evil was not something I expected, since other shows plot twists are “they evil!”. This show made it make sense. And it fits so well to the other subplots and to Malcolm’s storyline.
It’s been a while since ive seen so many plot twists so well done. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
Or the John Watkins kidnapping plot twist. They didn’t make it last too long to lose interest and they made it the right amount to keep the viewers hooked on it.
And it made sense on the overall storyline! It’s magnificent. If there seems to be a plot hole it gets fixed in the next episode. There are no loose strings. Everything fits. And the GITB being alive? I did not see that coming at all and I loved it!
Now the cinematography. The color scheme is magnificent!!! Thanks to the lighting and some certain colours associated with characters (red for martin) it adds on to the foreshadow and gives the viewers a reason to keep rewatching for the clues we missed. It’s great! The way the
shots are filmed, I can’t explain how but it’s well done. It’s made so the scenes don’t feel too quick or too slow. It’s just right. And last but not least: The psychology aspect. This one is personal because I love psychology and will be studying it on college. And there’s so
many little psychology details that mean so much. Maybe they use one or two psychology terms each episode which adds to the overall theme and don’t spend too much explaining them so it looks normal. Plus, Thanks to the show I recognised half the vocab from my psychology class
this year and have passed with A’s thanks to it. It makes me incredibly happy connecting my favourite topic to my favourite show.
In conclusion the only thing Prodigal son is lacking from the show is a season two confirmation. It’s perfect and it should get renewed.
