THREAD: Just rural online student things!! I had a test I had to take today, woke up with no internet. Called my service provider, was told it would be up by 11:30am. Called again when we had nothing at noon. Was then told 5:30pm. I had no way to contact my professor.
No way to let him know that if I missed my test today it was because I had no wifi and enough signal for reliable data isn’t a thing in my hometown. Had to travel 45 minutes to my grandmother’s house and risk exposing her (I’m healthy but asymptomatic carriers are a thing).
It is now 10:26pm and we just got wifi back. College students from rural areas are struggling to have the BASICS we need to be successful with online classes. If I don’t have wifi how am I supposed to be successful?? We need reliable broadband everywhere and we need it now.
Update: it’s now 10:45pm and the wifi is back out!
Update 2: Internet came back on (hopefully for good) at 11:54. I had an assignment due at midnight that I did in 8 minutes and is therefore late. Dr. G, I really need you to be understanding here.
Update 3: It’s now 10:22am and the internet is back out. Currently sitting in the window to tweet this. Called my provider and was told internet would be back at 3:30pm. I have another test I have to take by noon tomorrow and I can’t access any of the lectures. #HelpRuralStudents
