If we’re being honest, I am mentally and physically worn down. But you know what else? I’ve never been prouder of humanity.
Last night, I prayed in my bathtub as I watched a tornado tear through our city. I heard paneling and trees thrash against my window. I heard the sirens begin and never quit.
With two dead phones and no sleep, I got ready with the light of a candle and headed out the door.

I met people who lost their families. Helped a woman get her paralyzed dog in a car. Empathized with leaders who said this is the last thing their cities needed.
Sure, I came home to the power still out and food spoiling in the fridge, but that’s nothing compared to the heartbreak I saw today. The unimaginable stress of losing your home during a pandemic that forces you to need one.
I know we’re all craving normalcy, especially on days like today. But all we can do is lean in to each other. No matter how bad it gets, our humanity cannot, and will not, be brought down.
