The 'plan b' academics have a website that gives more detail. Essentially build herd immunity. Intellectual rigour is weak, no representation from clinicians, Māori, ethics etc, examples cherry picked. Here are some doozy statements that provide insight into their ideology. /1

"We cannot shut ourselves off from the world as we attempt to eliminate the virus and await the hopeful arrival of a vaccine that may take several years."

The vaccine will definitely arrive within 12 months. /2

"Civil liberties in New Zealand are now eroded with unchecked State of Emergency powers. Confidence in the police is undermined."

Seems like anti-authoritarian attitudes here.

"Clearly, up to now, the virus has not had the devastating effect on hospital services as it was thought to."

Well of course, we have been on Level 4 lockdown to prevent overwhelming the health system. /3

In short their plan b requires a significant proportion of the population to self-isolate / lockdown to prevent dying. (e.g. resthomes) This is highly inequitable. It is obvious that if the virus is transmitting in the community it will get into rest homes anyway. 5/5
