Got distracted by other stuff and am gonna use tonight to finish the Rise of the Force Trilogy.

Am I going to live-tweet the whole thing?
Probably.

Here we go!
The Last Jedi!!!
I thought it was really interesting for this movie to quite literally pick up IMMEDIATELY after Force Awakens ends.

Helps to set it apart a bit.
DAMN the dreadnaught is a terrifying battleship.

And I enjoy Poe just straight up messing with Hux.
This assault is one hell of an opening battle. We usually close a movie/trilogy with this kind of space battle.

Last time I think it happened in the open was Revenge of the Sith.
BB-8 continues to be precious.
The thematic arc of Poe being a hero like Han and by extension not listening like Han and needing to learn to listen is a good place for his story to go. He has a very good arc over the three movies.
I like that this movie seems to bring back the idea that Lucas had for these ships all being reminiscent of WW2 and having the different types of ships.

It makes it feel more like a fully fleshed out space war.
I enjoy seeing Snoke fling Hux around the ship like a rag doll. It not only gives us a little bit of comedy but makes the villains use of the force seem more harsh and brutal that what we've seen in the past.
I heard one critique that people with Finn was a more central part of this film.

While I can see that, the story transitions from being "his" in Force Awakens to "Rey's" in Last Jedi so I don't mind that.
This particular moment threw me, yes.

But then I remembered Yoda sneaking into Luke's stuff and stealing his food just to see how Luke would react.

Old Masters love messing with pupils.

What if this was just Luke seeing if she reacted with "anger"?
I still just get chills from Luke in this movie. and I love it.

And then seeing the X-Wing!
I love all of this!
Kylo Ren, you son of a bitch.

I love the look of the scarred patch and was VERY happy/interested to see him smash the mask.

The interactions with Snoke present a lot of history and I enjoy every scene in this throne room!
Kylo Ren was just a teenager having a tantrum in Force Awakens but Last Jedi gave him so many layers. It added so much DEPTH!!!!
I love Luke just laying out the whole finale 20 minutes into the movie. Because then he's growing and changing his own expectations for himself.

Man, I love this movie.
Luke, still being a farmer...

Also I can't help but wonder how many days that fish Luke caught would be lasting him...
Oh man...here's where they also could have included ANY indication of Palpatine not being dead.

When Rey hears whispers from the CAVE OF DARKNESS, one of those whispers could have been an obscured Palpatine.

Unless.... JJ didn't have that planned all along.
"Why are you here, Rey from Nowhere?"

GodDAMN is that a MEATY QUESTION!!!!!

Also, Rey from Nowhere is a way cooler name than Rey Skywalker.
Damn right Leia!!!!

You tell him!
I really enjoy the story thread of the slow speed chase. It adds a ticking clock to the film that we normally only hit in our finale.

It also makes the First Order WAY scarier than The Empire.

Also love that Rogue One tossed in the seeds of this bit of research.
Kylo leading in the charge that royally messes up the ship is intense.

He's continuing his spiral after killing Han and damn near completely circles the drain, were it not for Leia. She makes him falter. For just a beat.

That's a dynamic I would have loved to see in the sequel.
I audibly gasped when Leia got sucked out.

And when her eyes opened?
You bet your ASS I CHEERED!

Let Leia be a massive BAMF with the Force. She's more than earned it.

Love her foreshadowing the Holdo Maneuver too!
Not gonna lie, wanted to see Chewie take a big bite...
I got more emotional for this than seeing Han back in the cockpit.

With Luke, this cockpit was the true start of his journey. From that seat, he was led to his father, discovered his destiny, and became the man he is today.
I always love seeing R2 appear in these things.

The tweets are getting sporadic because I'm cooking. And I can't just half watch one of my favorite movies in the Star Wars series.
R2 totally would pull the Leia card...
Luke coming to terms with his hubris is a heartbreaking turn for the character. It fits with the character and @HamillHimself plays the scene beautifully.
And I love Rose's intro.

We get to see how quickly the legends of Rey, Finn, & Poe are spreading and how they need these legends to believe in.

And his selfish agenda needed to be discovered. He also needed to learn that lesson to grow.
Finn gives some great relief for the heavy moments of this movie.
Finn's learning the "Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" lesson is crucial for his growth into a true Resistance Hero.
I don't like Poe barreling ahead and being an alpha macho dick when it comes to locking out Holdo but damn does it fit.

Is it in character? Oh hell yeah. And it's totally in character.
