I wanted to talk about action photos.

Let me first start by saying that I am no expert in this subject matter. This is just from my own personal experience.

I’ve included a couple pictures with camera setup information.
The first thing when taking action photos is that you will be much better off using a DSLR camera. You’ll need to set a focal point to where the action will be happening before the photo is taken and this is much more easily done with a DSLR.
I take my action photos using a tripod so I will set to focus using the autofocus on the camera to focus to a stand in piece (my coffee pot usually) where the action will occur. I’ll then set the camera to manual focus so I don’t lose the focus to this spot.
After I set the focal point I’ll test my camera setup; shutter speed (max 1/400 second), aperture, and ISO. A fast shutter speed is needed, especially when photographing things like powder sugar dusting, so you get a clear image of the action.
I like to keep a tight aperture which means that if I’m using a fast shutter speed I have to use a mid high ISO. You’ll see in the two photos at the beginning of this thread that thread ISO is higher for the photo with the faster shutter speed to give it more light.
