"[Game] Aged Poorly" is a symptom of technological fetishism in the game industry that treats design decisions as results of technical limitations, and is almost always a bad take.
Design sensibilities have changed over time, but newer sensibilities are not inherently better than older sensibilities. The nearest you could say is that newer sensibilities have the advantage of being able to learn from older sensibilities, but that inherently make them better.
The corollary to this is, even when design decisions *are* motivated by available technology, it doesn't mean the decisions that take advantage of more modern technology are better than the decisions built around the limitations of older technology.
Just because you've added new colors to your palette doesn't mean the new colors are inherently better than the old ones, you've just got more options to work with.
