bc I was always classed as “gifted and talented” throughout primary & secondary school, no one picked up on my dyspraxia til my FINAL YEAR of my undergrad degree. I was always appalling at PE, particularly anything requiring hand eye coordination & was just seen as bad at PE https://twitter.com/puppsicle/status/1249415854686498817
On my school report from my VERY FIRST DAY at school they noted how I struggled with throwing and catching but bc I was “clever” no one ever thought to look at it further. as I got older & struggled more with my concentration & workload it just got worse bc no one ever saw me
as a kid that needed help. I’m so grateful for the study skills support worker at my first uni who noticed it upon meeting me & got me the help and skill sets in place to do better academically
learning difficulties are not a measure of intelligence!!!!
I could go on even more about how my mental health & fatigue were never taken seriously until late at uni either bc I was always labelled as clever (thus obvs couldn’t have any issues at school) but this thread is already too long
