The gay community really struggles to have difficult conversations with itself about the ties between sex and shame. Often, sex IS about validation for individuals, and that need CAN stem from an unhealthy place. Supporting sex positivity and removing shame from sex should not mean refusing to acknowledge that the role of sex in our culture in particular is pronounced, and sometimes in damaging ways. This thread comes from a frustrated place, but so much of it rings true.
