I& #39;ve been thinking about email conversions lately.

New email copywriters often reach out to me panicked because they& #39;ve sent out an email (or emails) with an offer, have gotten great opens, good number of clicks but no conversions.
I always ask them:

- How warm or engaged was the list?
- How many people did the email(s) go out to?
- What the average click/click-through rate of the list/segment is?

Most times, the answer to these questions are enough to calm down nerves.
But to put things into perspective, I& #39;m sharing the numbers from my @emailsdoneright newsletter that I launched back in February.

Last week, I sent out an email with an offer of a pitch and cost free call to talk about boosting email sales.
List size: 182 subscribers <- my tiny little list-linghttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Face with tears of joy" aria-label="Emoji: Face with tears of joy">
Opens: 107 (59.12%)
Unique clicks: 13 (7.18%)

# of calls scheduled: 3

Now my list is pretty engaged and this was a free offer. And even then it only converted at 1.6%
Here& #39;s an example from the opposite side of the spectrum:

I wrote a retention-focused email sequence for a SaaS client of mine back in Feb.

The first email got them over 400 replies!

Impressive right?

For sure. BUT...
...that email went out to THOUSANDS of people.

Segment size: 27k approx
Opens: a little over 8k (30.8%)
CTR: n/a (The CTA was to reply to the email.)

1.5% on a segment of paying users. If they weren& #39;t the numbers would have been lower.
Moral of the thread:

When in doubt, check your expectations and ask yourself the 3 questions above.
