You may wonder "What the bloody hell does an archaeologist know about a global viral pandemic?"

Fair question.

We know that in the future archaeologists will see our mass graves, our dumps of PPE, the environmental change, the reduction in consumption and production....
And those archaeologists will see, the same way current archaeologists have seen, an event that had a devastating impact on our society, because these things leave a deep scar on our archaeology record as well as our people
And, if we choose to let the virus run its course, those archaeologists will see thousands and millions of human remains of people who suffered unnecessary and devastating illness during a time when the world was wealthy.

That will be our archaeological legacy.
We have a choice regarding how we want to be recorded in human history -

Choose wealth over people or use the huge wealth we already have to save people

We are creating our legacy now and the future will not be kind to us if we fuck it up

Trust me, I'm an archaeologist
