1/12 We've learned much about #COVID19 patient care from our
international colleagues who have selflessly shared their knowledge and wisdom on Twitter - this will benefit our patients and save lives. After almost a week on #GIM @UHN, I want to offer back my simple observations:
2/12 My first patient with #COVID19 had an atypical presentation – acute labyrinthitis. If your pre-COVID differential diagnosis included viral infection, look for #COVID19 now
3/12 #COVID19 is where you least expect it - test more. And where you most expect it - protect the vulnerable, #HousingEquityCOVID now and for life, make it the new normal @drandrewb
4/12 Being on the front lines providing patient care, teaching and learning with residents is far more enjoyable and far less frightening than being on the sidelines doing crisis planning #MedEd
5/12 Co-Rounding on the #COVID19 team yesterday inspired confidence in our preparedness. Standardized order sheets, progress notes, dedicated COW, PPE buddy, and high-level discussion for care plans. Thank you @LMelvinMD @RB_Cavalcanti @RupalShah09 @ShailRawalMD @md_frost
6/12 A PPE buddy is essential – Choreograph a ritual, talk out loud, spot one another, and create a culture that normalizes calling out slips
7/12 PPE conservation is wise and not as frightening as it sounds. It's possible to limit PPE use safely. Those guarding it must be kind and trust us - Thanks @UHN TWH 8A/8B/3B/4B/ED nursing for taking care of us! Essential our leaders ensure adequate PPE supply @KevinSmithUHN
8/12 Our @UofT_DoM residents are exceptional individuals – they have shown incredible dedication and understanding while having their educational journey disrupted, flexibility under uncertainty, and adaptability to our
fluid scheduling. Thank you!
9/12 This time is surreal. When else will I have the opportunity to be a student
again, learning about a novel emerging disease alongside my residents?
10/12 Being mistaken for a medical student or resident in PPE garb is awesome! I give it a few more weeks before the grey pops through the bouffant cap and my cover is blown.
11/12 We have not seen the anticipated surge yet in #Ontario
– We were right to plan for the worst and are ready for it, restrictions likely
working, in it for the long haul, stay the course and #Stayathome
12/12 Follow @DFisman That's all
