So I’ve been thinking about something that I saw circulating when CALM was first released, and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to word my opinion on the matter. I saw several tweets talking about how CALM “clearly” depicts a topic relationship.
Let’s discuss… (a thread)

First thing I want to get out of the way: Luke is not the only member of 5SOS. He is not the only lyricist in the band. Yes, Wildflower may be the only song he didn’t contribute to writing, but that doesn’t mean that he came up with the core idea for each and every song.

Second: His (or any member’s) relationships have literally nothing to do with you. If they are in a toxic relationship (not saying they are, calm down lierra stans), then that’s their business.

IF that is the case, and any of the members are in a bad situation, they will realize it eventually. Maybe this is callous to say, but heartbreak makes for some epic music, so get excited, yo.

Finally (and MOST IMPORTANTLY): Music is subjective. Just because a song SOUNDS like it’s about a relationship doesn’t mean it IS about a relationship. It could be about literally anything – fans, fame, friends, food… literally ANYTHING.

There’s a song that I absolutely adore that sounds like a beautiful love song, and while it is a love song, it’s not about a person… it’s a love letter to heroin, written while the artist was in rehab.

So please, for the love of god, stop attacking the artists, their significant others, their relationships… Just stop. And here’s a fun fact: couples fight. Shocking, I know. But name one couple you know that has NEVER had an argument? A disagreement?

If you know a couple like that, they’re lying to either you or themselves. It is impossible to get along with a person 100% of the time. Opinions clash, things get heated. The important thing is how you handle it.

Love is worth fighting for – if there’s nothing to fight for, is it really love?
