I haven’t even read the article, but I will say this:
1. Elliot needed to go. Perhaps not then, perhaps not in the way he did, and maybe we didn’t realize it at the time, but he needed to go.

without one of them stepping up. It had to be one of them, there wasn’t another option. They couldn’t both be captains, so it would have created an uncomfortable shift between the two of them. They were always meant to be equal.
1B. To some extent, Olivia DID

grow in his absence, but not because of it. We are selling her short to believe she wasn’t capable of growth with him. The issue was that they never wanted to step on each other in order to do that. She respected him too much and he respected her.
2. There are
2. There are
a lot of things—too many things—that Olivia has endured without him. There’s obviously going to be some resentment there, but not because he left, but because (based on what we know), he took their friendship with him.
3. I do think that this opens up the chance

for them to resolve those feelings. Hers of resentment and his of regret. They wouldn’t be them if they didn’t hash that out before they moved forward.
4. They’re older now. They’re both successful and stable in their careers, assuming Elliot is doing well.

That opens the doors for them to explore the side of their relationship we’ve all been hoping for. There isn’t the complication of their partnership because their partnership no longer exists. Not in terms of their jobs, anyway.
5. They love each other.
5. They love each other.
His absence has made that excruciatingly more clear, and it’s not a secret. It’s silly to think that that will just disappear when he returns. That part of them never ended.
6. Elliot’s return won’t overshadow Olivia’s greatness. He never has, and that was never his
6. Elliot’s return won’t overshadow Olivia’s greatness. He never has, and that was never his
intention. He will, as he always did, support her. Whether or not that means they get together remains to be seen, but the point is that, in some way or anything, they always have been together, and that dynamic isn’t going to change.
some way or another*
