Here's some ways in which I feel that the Away Goal Rule in two-legged knockout football could be improved [THREAD]
1. NO AWAY GOAL RULE IN CASE OF 2 DRAWS.
Often there's been instances of a tie which has both teams playing two draws at both venues.
Eg. PSG 1-1 CHE & CHE 2-2 PSG (14/15)
Here one team qualified on away goals, though they didn't definitively beat the other team even once.

So it was unfair for the team which got eliminated even though they weren't beaten even once across 2 whole games and 180 minutes of football.

So, the away goal rule should not apply in case of both legs being draws.
2. REMOVE EXTRA TIME AND AWAY GOALS; ONLY PENALTIES.
A big reason why the away goal rule even exists is because the team hosting 2nd plays 30 extra minutes at their own ground in case of equal scores and away goals.
So the away goals balance out any undue advantage caused.

Which means that if we can't find a clear winner even after 180 mins. of football, we choose to play 30 more.

Add to that the physical toll and risk of injury put on the players caused by 120 mins. of intense football in one night, in an already packed season.
....

So to avoid all of this, we should simply remove extra time, and in turn remove the away goal rule due to lack of relevance.

We should instead play 90 minutes of football at both venues, and if the aggregate scores are level after that, HEAD STRAIGHT TO PENALTIES.
I'll keep on adding to this thread as I get further ideas. Thanks for reading.
