The danger in crisis is that equity & access go out the window as we ‘fight the feared enemy’.

But in truth we need diversity in leadership, governance and power now more than ever.

Without it we identify the wrong problems & arrogantly only draw on narrow range of solutions.
This is a short thread on just ten of many reasons that a lack of diversity in decision making during the #coronavirusuk is likely to have impacted negatively on outcomes.
1/ Because regulations, policy and law still need to pass tests of equality. If you’ve no lived experience of ASD or mental illness you’ll possibly miss the impact of an enforced lockdown. https://twitter.com/bindmansllp/status/1247954854615699458">https://twitter.com/bindmansl...
3/ Because developing policy when you’ve only lived in 4 bed/3 bathroom house with garden means you possibly haven’t thought through the import of parks to the 2 million homes without gardens. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.tes.com/news/taped-playgrounds-leave-hole-our-communities%3famp">https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www...
6/ Because those ‘disadvantaged’ communities were quicker, more focused & reached further into need than many monoliths. Fund them. Learn from them. Don’t just throw cash at the biggest brands. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.theargus.co.uk/news/18342412.amp/">https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www...
10/ Because if you’ve no experience of learning or physical disabilities you might think being dependent on others for care is a reason for denying full health care. https://twitter.com/mattgarrahan/status/1249336901313667074">https://twitter.com/mattgarra...
Just 10 reasons for ensuring decisions made during this crisis - & the years to come after - are made by a system where lived experience has power.

And I’m conscious in itself it neglects the reality that international inequity is even greater.
