My most valuable thread, ever.

About how you can win (big).

Don't focus on what happens when you lose. ONLY focus on how you can win.

This story is about the opportunity to become the co-founder of @hypefury thanks to @SamyDindane
Samy and I met on @indiehackers

He posted a topic saying he was looking for someone to do growth for Hypefury.

I responded and we started talking.

He asked how I would do growth. I didn't promise the moon. I did have my plan ready. You shouldn't wing this. Prepare yourself.
He asked me to do a 2 month internship to see if we were a match and to show him that I could grow Hypefury.

Now here's where the valuable part of this thread kicks in.

You shouldn't ask for anything in return in case it doesn't work out.

Nothing. Focus only on winning.
If you only focus on the winning side of the deal you show seniority and yes a little stupidity as well, but:

No risk, no return. No pain, no gain. I did the internship for free.

It puts you in the "back against the wall" mode. That's when you often perform at your best.
If you don't ask for anything on the downside you also give the other guy more confidence in you.

They don't have to think about the downside. You create positivity.

They don't have to worry about what if you f*ck up and they get to pay for something they're not happy with.
Not asking for anything in return doesn't put you in relax mode. In the "if I f*ck up at least I'll still get something" mode.

It's a fearful tactic and can turn you from a winner into a loser very quickly.
You can be confident in your own skills but that doesn't mean you know everything. It also still means you should level with each other. Ask how they think you're doing and how you can improve.

If you're doing business with someone it's never a one man show.
If you know you can do something. The only thing you have to do, is to do it.

It's super simple but not easy.

Make it easier for yourself by focussing on one side only. Winning.
