We condemn the racist actions of individual landlords and vendors in Guangzhou against African residents. China met with 20 African nations' envoys to affirm their commitment to hold these actors accountable and to their relationship with African nations.

We also see that Western media is engaging in hyperbole to drive a wedge in China-Africa relations. For decades, China has funded African students to study in China; aid & investment in Africa; and provided concrete support to Africa during COVID19 while the West has refused.
Recently, two controversies have inflamed race relations in Guangdong: 1) a Nigerian immigrant with COVID-19 bit a nurse, refused quarantine, & infected others. 2) a handful of African migrants have reportedly returned to Guangdong with COVID19 and a small outbreak has resurged.
China has met with envoys from African nations numerous times to affirm that they will hold all Chinese bad actors accountable. Opportunistic meddling from the West—which has no ground to stand on when it comes to anti-blackness—does nothing but further inflame the situation.
The root of the West's opportunistic seizing of interpersonal racism in Guangzhou is its fear that China provides a new model of diplomacy and investment which would enable African nations to escape the underdevelopment trap created by Western colonialism and IMF neoliberalism.
Throughout the crisis in China, the government has taken care of & provided treatment to thousands of Africans in China. China has also provided healthcare to Zimbabwe's VP, who has flown to China multiple times for doctors checkups over COVID19 concerns. https://www.pmldaily.com/news/2020/03/zimbabwe-vp-heads-to-china-for-medical-checkup.html
We encourage people to refrain from spreading false narratives that this is a human rights abuse campaign by the government. A group of private landlords evicted a African migrants and a McDonalds posted a racist sign. This is not a state-sponsored persecution as some allege.
We are concerned with the misrepresentation of China's pandemic policies such as door to door testing and transporting people with COVID19 to mandatory quarantine sites—which it applies to all people both foreigners & citizens—as a targeted state persecution of African migrants.
