The MLs up in arms right now need to realize I have no problem with anti-imperialism. Opposing empire is a key part of anti-colonial/anti-capitalist politics. The problem is much of modern ML takes are informed by a cadre of malicious grifters associated with the Grayzone Project
Similar to how the Dirtbag Left is a bunch of reactioanries who latched themselves onto Bernie to normalize fucked up views, Grayzone latched themselves to anti-imp to push their own reactionary agenda. This doesn't make Bernie a Nazi nor does it make anti-imperialism fascist
The problem is these grifters laundering their reaction through legitimate movements. This is what we mean by Redbrown. They're attempting to normalize their support for fucked up regimes & to silence legit left opposition to make space for their fashy friends.
It's quite apparent with the Dirtbags re: Aimee, Red Scare. But Grayzone has also normalized fascists like de Zayas, Dugin & others by platforming their takes alongside anti-imperialist critique. This is very dangerous
For those new to radical politics, they become susceptible to thinking Jimmy Dore is just as legitimate a voice on imperialism as Fanon or Che. Couple this with the fact Grayzone has a nebulous funding stream & was started by the son of a wealthy Clintonian dynasty operative
Grayzone also has a habit of rehabilitating ex-CIA spooks as whistleblowers, people who cut their teeth on anti-communist activities in the 80s & 90s
The point isn't to bring down US empire, it's to create a narrow campist worldview that fundamentally upholds capitalist logic, that seeks to eradicate true leftwing forces in favor of bolstering the power of their select cronies
All the while, Grayzone is able to profit & ladder climb off left struggle to become the arbiters of truth. These people do not deserve your support & like Chapo et al, they should be shunned. If you want true anti-imperialist critiques you have to dig through the BS to find it
Read Marx, read Fanon, read Marcos. Listen to voices that see imperialism as a military & economic force of capital that transcends borders rather than a team rooting sport btwn "good" & "bad" nations. Empire is more than just the operations of nation-states, it's the fundamental
force of colonialism. So yes, in an essence all nation-states are imperialist but more importantly it's what's driving the economic engine that destroys land, community & culture to create a bleak colonized landscape. Imperialism is a function of capital, think beyond nations.
