You know what? I& #39;ll add this to my open letters/questions to the #ttrpg world: more classes should have communal functions. They should have meaning and purpose and add to the societies that they live in.
People should care when they aren& #39;t present. First on my list: Wizards.

These are people who have reality-bending powers and the only thing we can think of for them to do with all of that power is to become hermits or corrupt.
Y& #39;all. Let& #39;s talk about this. I demand better from all of this power a wizard can command. Let& #39;s get into it. /1

TEACHING. Let& #39;s talk about the fact that Wizards can teach other people what they learn. Have them make a list of things they can do with their respective city or settlement council and then take on those tasks as part of an apprenticeship. /2
They can cast Guards & Wards. There are whole cities to protect and they can keep that there permanently. You want to tell me these Wizards wouldn& #39;t be hired by nobles and royals to magically lock all of their doors or to do the same for their cities?
Wut. /3

"But a Wizard wouldn& #39;t use their powers on something so trivial..." Ah, so Wizards don& #39;t see the concerns of the local citizenry as important in your world.
Consider: stop doing that and make Wizards that give a damn about the people around them. /4

You can do that by having them do practical magic to help with things. Like using their magic to supplement the kind of things and or resources people in an area might not have!
Also consider: abjuration and divination schools of magic exist. /5

Imagine having the gift of foresight and all that could prevent. Imagine the amount of things they could teach people to protect. Lives they could save.
They get paired with your guards and rangers on missions and hunts to protect them from harm! /6

"But what would Clerics do?" As if Wizards don& #39;t get wounded for all of their divination and trying to protect people. They don& #39;t have healing powers. Clerics and Wizards can compliment each other without diminishing each other& #39;s abilities. Let them do that. /7
Also? Light as a cantrip. "Hey, I can teach you how to/give you an amulet that lets you light your way as you go out or work and the local druid is pleased because you aren& #39;t harvesting resources you don& #39;t need just to light your shop."
The possibilities!!!!!
