The Never Biden faction of the Sanders camp is now in an awkward position: Can you maintain that Bernie Sanders is a figure of unique vision and moral bravery – America's most valuable left-wing leader in a generation – and also wrong that his base should get behind Biden now?

The distrust of many progressives is a real obstacle for Biden, and he clearly knows it. But the gulf between what Sanders is saying now, and what some of his loudest supporters have been saying over the last week, is also a challenge to the political coherence of the left.
