open for discussion alot of yall bout to be mad at me but it must be said...while I enjoy kiddos being carefree and shit everyone should be mindful how consumption of tik tok challenges and allat is still inherently full of white people becoming the face of black culture & dance
the problem isnt doing the dances but the issue comes when displays of blackness are awarded to white teens who just overshadow the black teens who originated it. and thats largely become the case
i see dancehall, whine, hip hop challenges done by white ppl and those are the ones who go viral. it just makes me wonder why white people start to do things that have been done by ppl of color and it becomes an amazing thing when its seen as something hyper sexualized otherwise
Tik tok challenges are just a modern and seemingly more innocent example of appropriation that has a longer history :/ again feeling this and understanding this first and foremost before being able to enjoy the entertainment of it is just the burden of being a person of color ig
so im hesitant to drop my jaw and a white girl doing the savage challenge and getting a social media career off of it when the literal artist behind the song (meg the stallion) cant catch a break for rapping about her confidence in sexuality as a black woman and female rapper
Its a tad :// is all
share ur thots if u agree or disagree we can parse this out
