Historical Evidence/Consequences of the Biblical Flood: A Thread
Quick disclaimer, while I, and most other people on this side of Twitter, find Genesis alone to be enough evidence for said flood, this thread is specifically about other mentions of it, whether historical or from other religions, and the non-religious consequences of said event.
Regarding other mentions of the Biblical flood, the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Atra-Hasis, an ancient Assyrian poem, the Satapatha Brahmana, a Hindu text dated to around the 6th century, and Plato's Timaeus all mention some sort of ancient world spanning flood.
In reference to historical possibilities for the Great Flood, it is typically mentioned in Outburst flood theories.
These are mostly used to describe the Black Sea flood. Which is thought to be the much-discussed refilling of the freshwater glacial Black Sea with water from the Aegean. It has been described as "a violent rush of salt water into a...
...depressed fresh-water lake in a single catastrophe that has been the inspiration for the flood mythology". The event, caused by the rising level of the Mediterranean, apparently occurred 7,600 years ago...
...It remains an active subject of debate among geologists, with subsequent evidence discovered to both support and refute the existence of the flood, while the theory that it is the basis of later flood myths is not proven.
It's also used for the possible flooding of the Persian Gulf. Which scattered peoples to both sides of body of water, it was an area fed by four rivers.
The last historical flood I'll talk about is the Red Sea floods, dated to about 69,000 years ago. The barrier across Bab-el-Mandeb, between Ethiopia and Yemen, seems to have been the source of the flooding similar to that found in the Mediterranean...
The Lake Toba explosion, approximately 69,000 years ago, caused a massive drop in sea levels worldwide, exposing the barrier and enabling modern people to leave Africa via an alternative route than Sinai...
...The finding of saline evaporites on the floor of the Red Sea confirms that this dam has functioned at various periods in the past. Rising sea levels during various time periods suggest that this area may have been subject to outburst flooding.
I specifically chose to talk about these floods for their dating (all within 100,000 years), and their closeness to the Middle East. The Med also had a similar flood millions of years ago, but its date is way too far off to even consider the connection.
Regarding the historical impact of said floods, it can be seen with the Bronze Age Collapse. Multiple civilisations, such as the Egyptians, Hittites, and Mycenaean Greeks, all faced societal upheaval and collapse because of said events.
Most typically, these events are attributed to the migrations of "sea people", but with multiple theories of natural disasters being involved in said events, it could make sense for said collapse to be related to a flood.
Along with this, if you do decide to go with the Sea People theory, it makes sense for the migration to be caused by a massive flood causing them to leave before they are swallowed by the Sea, leading to the possibility that the flood may have indirectly caused this.
In general, your idea of the Great Flood's relation to civilisational collapse comes down to when you believe it happened, and if you believe that there are civilisations pre-dating what we normally believe to be the first nations.
If you believe there are multiple nations that predate Sumer, Harappa, or anything of that sort, it would make sense for a Great Flood to be the reason for these event more ancient civilisations being lost. They were possibly swallowed by the sea, all evidence destroyed.
Of course, this fusion of Biblical, Historical, and Scientific sources really won't lead to much if you don't see the point to it. While I believe the Great Flood story in Genesis, I see why others would prefer a more historical context, which is why I made this thread.
This is at least my take on it. I'm not trying to force any real answers for this on anyone, just providing information for you guys to research further to help you come to your own conclusions.

Just hope you guys enjoyed the read.
