South Sudan fought against the North for 21 years to be independent. Then they gained independence and the various tribes in the South began fighting each other. Over 400,000 have died so far. I am sure we will see a similar unravelling if Biafra eventually becomes a reality.
The South East is not as United as most people will assume. There are interstate and intrastate conflicts. In fact, there are violent rivalries between villages flanking each other.

"Igbo' is, at best, an umbrella term used to describe a dissimilar people in the South East.
The same applies to the North where outsiders assume is filled with a homogeneous ethnic group.

And the same applies to the West that fought violent civil wars among themselves in the 1800s. In fact, Akintola Vs Awolowo is just a microcosm of the "Yoruba diversity."
The second coup of 1966 for instance was a revenge by the North against the killings of Northern leaders.

Subsequent coups became a conflict among the Christian North and Muslim North. Murtala Vs Gowon, Buka Dimka Suka against Murtala/IBB gang etc
That particular rivalry sort of ended with the Muslim North army officers coming out on top and ensuring power remains in the NORTH (the real North).

Well, that particular rivalry within the military sort of spilled into the civilian society, pitting Muslims against Christians
Within the Christian North, there also appears a faint sense of unity when it is against the Hausa/Fulani North.

Benue state will appear United when pitted against the core North for instance.

But take the Hausa/Fulani out of the picture and Benue implodes: TIV against Idoma
Well, these are just inferences from a long history of pro-indepence movement of heterogeneous groups.

The South East is definitely a heterogeneous region, with several variants of Igbo being spoken, and other not-exactly-Igbo ethnic groups.
Anyway, for now, autonomy from Nigeria is a uniting dream. Once that dream comes true, some of us on the other side of the Niger will be glad to analyse the sociopolitical dynamics and conflicts in the South East.
