A response to the current media representation of #teaching during #covid19

(1) All this rhetoric in the media that children are going untaught and implying that teachers are doing nothing whilst in lockdown is getting tiresome.
(2) Schools are NOT shut and teachers are working harder than ever to plan effective teaching way outside their comfort zones to educate children.
(3) Note ‘effective’. Whilst I’ve seen many tweets of families being inundated by home learning tasks, many teachers are also aware of what is realistic work to set remotely and are constantly refining this. But this thread is not getting into that.
(4) Let’s not forget that schools are technically in Easter holidays right now, but have remained open to accommodate Key Worker children.
(5) Teachers/HoDs/SMT have also had to take on working out #publicexam grades for students which is something they have NEVER had to do before and is HUGELY stressful. This process is still ongoing.
(6) Nothing can top the work the NHS is doing, or Key Workers who are out everyday. But it should be noted that teachers, pretty much overnight, turned their way of working inside out & upside down, and they did so without making a fuss (& continue to do so).
(7) To insinuate laziness and that teachers are sat at home doing nothing in opinion pieces that are not backed up by valid research is an insult to a profession which is predominantly driven by care for its students and one which is doing a huge amount in this crisis. •
