Hi Twitter, this is a personal/job news tweet. This is my last week as part of the @newtropicmiami/ @WhereByUs team. Next Monday I'm joining @WLRN as their digital editor. I'm really excited and now a thread will follow!
I owe so much to @rsm @BrucePinchbeck & @cksopher for what they built back in 2015 and I'm so thankful for the trust they put in me in this past year. And I'm super grateful to @azirulnick for the incredible work she did in developing The New Tropic into a community powerhouse.
In the past two years and change I've learned so much from and about our community about how to highlight important issues, give authentic voice to marginalized communities, the value of being present, and just how crucial it is to develop and earn trust.
It's been so fun to do everything from leading community events, facilitating tough conversations, and working on explainers and voter guides, to dressing up as Kaptain Kush and taking a cryo bath for #journalism.
I'll miss working with my teammates in cities around the country so please continue following the work of @theevergrey, @pulptown, @bridgeliner and @theinclinepgh. Also, so many thanks to folks like @anikaanand00, @moniguzman, @AlexandraLeighS for what they've taught me.
And major thanks to all the readers, every community organization I've worked with and all the folks out there fighting to make Miami a better place. It's been a joy & a true learning experience to dig into tough issues and give larger meaning to the #livelikeyoulivehere mantra.
And again I'm super excited to join the public radio world with @WLRN, to work with and learn from former
@MiamiHerald colleagues, and to be on the same team as journalists and friends that I've admired from afar.
Finally, it's an incredibly weird time to be announcing a career move as journalists all over the state and country deal with layoffs, furloughs and dangerous work conditions. @SPJFla has a fund to support Florida journos here: https://spjflorida.com/hand-up-fund/
And both the @newsguild ( https://bit.ly/2wG47vG ) and @freepress ( https://bit.ly/34vaYo8 ) are spearheading efforts to get federal stimulus funding for journalists.
Also please subscribe to and support your local newspapers, NPR member stations, online news outlets and any other organization that helps you stay informed — whether there's a major crisis or not. Thank you all for the work you do and now I'm done invading your feeds.
You can follow @LDixon_3.
