im happy for the new crop of afrodominicana models success abroad. but we must be honest: theyre a success *abroad* precisely coz that isnt what dr considers beauty. black dominican models making it abroad isnt new. it hasnt changed they still pedestal white women.

so i would say that black dominicanas having success abroad hasnt changed the climate at home. in the same way that having afrolatina actresses abroad hasnt made that a viable career for us in latinamerica. youre ABROAD for a reason.

marihenny pasible is my fave. but no amount of success abroad for women like her actually translates to dominicans and other latinamericans acknowledging that as real beauty on par with their white italian lookin preferences. it does not trickle down. these articles out of touch.
