The matter was eventually brought before the Hindu Brahmans. The Hindu priests promptly issued a fatwa: "whoever owns the town of the prayer direction (Mecca) in his name the khutba should be read". That's sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The ruling was a hardly a surprise...
