So many dumb apples to oranges comparisons happening here. You can't compare flu deaths in the presence of a vaccine and no social distancing to covid-19 deaths in the absence of a vaccine and the deepest lockdown in American history.

Also, you can't compare deaths from a highly transmissible virus to deaths from a war.

Also, you can't compare economic loss from a government-mandated national shutdown to economic loss from a market-induced recession or depression.

Also, you shouldn't average fatality risks between non-comparable populations, e.g. populations not controlled for age and pre-existing conditions.
