I came across this @RollingStone article about @britneyspears's "...Baby One More Time"

Thinking back, I was in 8th or 9th grade, probably at the height of my skateboarding and punk music phase, drawing dumb anarchy logos on binders.

I would have never said that's a good song.
But now, I can comfortably admit that the song SLAPS. And the music video's chord progression and deep piano notes are angsty and remind me of teenage-hood, more than any punk or rock song.
It got me thinking, what insanely popular songs are/were outside of your music taste, but SLAP? A list from me:

"...Baby One More Time"
"Give it to You" by Jordan Knight
"Like I Love You" by Justin Timberlake
"I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry
"Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga
"Burn" by Ellie Goulding
"Born to Die"

"Summertime Sadness"

"Video Games"

(Lana Del Rey could get her own thread)
"Homemade Dynamite" by Lorde
"Superbass" by Nicki Minaj
"Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance
"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by Panic! At the Disco
"Rodeo" by Garth Brooks
For the most part, there is a menacing undertone and/or chord progression that is pretty consistent across all these songs and the actual lyrics seem to be incidental.

What pop songs are on your list?
