Just filled out the SAA survey on the ethics principles put forth by the task force. I remember when the executive board took the ethics revisions away from the Ethics Committee due to politics = birth of the task force, who then redid work we had already done for about 2 years.
I thought it was ironic that a special session was convened to present the task force’s findings during the 2019 meetings, when major ethics shit hit the fan.
Task forces are a great way to maintain status quo. Worth noting that the Ethics Committee was cut out of the revision work they had done for 2 years after principle 9 was adopted. The board also changed the Ethics Com leadership, due to “seniority” despite chair’s qualification
It was pretty clear to everyone on the ethics committee from 2014-2016/17 (I was on from 2013-2019) that the Executive Board did not want to revise the principles in any meaningful way.
I remember going over all my emails and communications around this after last spring’s debacle, and the politics of the issue are even clearer in hindsight.
After last fall’s vote on the @SAAorg by-laws, I’m not holding my breath that any progress will come from this.
Or that any progress is really wanted by the SAA
