Jesus outlines an alternative for the "lukewarm" church a chance to be "hot" as "opening the door" to fellowship with Christ - a likely allusion to the Eucharist.

(Rev. 3:20)
1. Christ is already knocking at the door to intimacy with believers (3:20) - not through some sparkly modern means of devotion, but through that "old rugged Cross."
2. The Christian opens to Him being "zealous and repenting" (3:19) - gaining zeal [passion] for the righteousness of God and repentance [turning] from sin.

He also must "hear His voice" (3:20) - a likely allusion to the charge at the testing of Meribah (Ps. 95:8)
3. Because of affection [love], Christ is working to "reprove and discipline" believers who make peace with sin and compromise. (3:19)

"For, whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”" (Heb 12:6)
4. Christ promises that He who opens will experience the joys and delights of the fellowship table. (Rev. 3:20)

Christ will delight: "I with him."

We will delight: "...he with Me."
5. The fellowship table grants eternal reward to the "zealous, repenting, hearer" to "sit down" on Christ's throne, sharing in authority in the age to come.

This is a clear allusion to Jesus' invitation to the disciples "sitting on 12 thrones" made in Mt. 19:28
6. Summary: the Christian is invited to hear, be zealous and repent. This opens the door of fellowship at the table of the body and blood of Jesus. Those who hear and respond are invited into present intimacy with Christ and future authority in the age to come.
