In an extraordinary break with Germany’s strict adherence to bank holidays, a group of govt advisors have published their roadmap out of coronavirus lockdown today. On Thursday Merkel said she was waiting for this report. Here’s a quick non exhaustive run through. #covid19
They recommend implementing a series of policies to loosen control that should be reviewed every two weeks.
- voluntary sign-up to GPS tracking to allow contact tracing
- schools to re-open as soon as possible, with class-sizes no greater than 15 and a focus on core subjects
- priority is to be given to students transitioning either to secondary education or higher. Students should wear face masks.
- Kindergartens should remain closed, with exceptions for children of key workers, until the summer.
- restaurants and shops should be allowed to reopen if new infection rates remain low and stable.
- physical distancing rules should remain in place, limits of public gatherings etc
- mask wearing should become near universal in certain public settings.
Angela Merkel and the German cabinet will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss the recommendations with a decision due in the coming days. #covid19
